HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR NEED TO BE FOR EXTENSIONS?

Your hair generally needs to be at least 5–6 inches long for a standard weave. However, there are methods suited to shorter hair too — this is something Ivy will discuss with you at your consultation, where she’ll recommend the best option for your hair length and type.

HOW LONG WILL MY EXTENSIONS LAST?

This depends on your hair type, lifestyle, and how well the extensions are cared for. Generally, extensions can be worn comfortably for anywhere between 4 and 13 weeks. Ivy recommends booking a tightening and check-up every 4–6 weeks to keep them looking their best.

WILL IT HURT OR DAMAGE MY HAIR?

Not at all — when done properly, extensions should be completely comfortable and cause no damage. At Hair by Ivy, extensions are never applied too tight, and no chemicals or glue are used. Many of Ivy’s clients find that their natural hair actually improves in condition while wearing extensions, as it is protected and able to grow undisturbed underneath. It is essential, however, that your extensions are removed by Ivy or a qualified specialist — never attempt to remove them at home.

CAN I COLOUR MY HAIR EXTENSIONS?

Hair by Ivy offers professional colour treatments for your extensions. We do not recommend colouring extension hair yourself at home, as this can significantly reduce the hair’s quality and lifespan. If a colour change is something you’re interested in, speak to Ivy at your consultation and she will advise the safest and most effective approach.

WHAT IS LACE INTEGRATION AND IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?

Lace integration is a specialist technique that uses a fine lace base to blend seamlessly with your own hair or scalp. It is particularly suited to women experiencing thinning hair or female pattern hair loss, as it creates a completely natural, undetectable result. Ivy will assess your hair during your consultation and let you know whether lace integration is the right solution for you.

DO I NEED A CONSULTATION BEFORE BOOKING?

Yes — a consultation is required for all new clients. This ensures Ivy fully understands your hair goals, assesses your hair and scalp, and recommends the most suitable method for you before any work begins. Consultations can be booked by contacting Ivy directly.
